Homeschooled Laurel begins public high school as tenth grader when her adoptive parents move LA., leaving behind land that has been her mother’s family since Gold Rush days. The ending allows many possibilities in upcoming sequels. The book has nice mix danger romance, world magic and world high school, well-developed characters and quick-moving plot.
